Buying a property overseas can be very stressful and fraught with difficulty. Great care should be taken when choosing a property and great care taken in choosing the professional people you need to help you.

Be sure to ask for recommendations and references to ensure that the agent or developer, lawyers, builders and architects have proven track records and satisifed customers. Speak to others who have used their services.

Engage an independent lawyer who has no vested interest in whether you buy one particular property over another. That means you should not necessarily use the laywer recommended by the seller. Find a solicitor and agent who have local knowledge and experience with working with foreign property buyers and ask some of these buyers about their experiences.

Agents and solicitors fees vary widely in every country so you are advised to check with Cyprus's professional association to find out as much information as you can before signing anything.
